Align: Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Project

Renewable energy comes from many sources – the sun, the wind and hydroelectric dams, as well as our nation’s farms. Methane from hog farms can be converted into clean, renewable energy for homes and businesses, power plants and even transportation vehicles. It’s called renewable natural gas (RNG), and it’s transforming the future by reducing emissions from our farms, providing clean energy for consumers and generating new income for family farmers.

Cavanaugh served as the lead designer, engineer, and deliverer of Align RNG’s first swine manure to bioenergy project located in North Carolina. The project collects biogas from 19 participant farms across Sampson and Duplin counties and is estimated to produce over 300,000 MMBTUs of RNG on an annual basis. The project results in over 142,000 metric tons of carbon equivalent emissions on an annual basis.
